In shortNitrogen tyre inflation for more stable running pressure and slower pressure loss, with a straight explanation of the real benefits. City Wheels does this at its workshop in I&T Centre, G-10/1, Islamabad, open 24 hours, 7 days a week with no appointment needed. Typical time: 15 minutes. Nitrogen inflation replaces the air in your tyres with dry nitrogen. It is worth being straight about what that does, because it is a service that gets oversold almost everywhere it is offered.

What it genuinely does: nitrogen molecules are slightly larger than oxygen molecules and permeate rubber more slowly, so pressure drops off more gradually over months. And because the gas is dry, there is no water vapour inside the tyre to expand as things heat up — which means running pressure stays more stable on a long, hot motorway run. In a Pakistani June, on a loaded car heading to Lahore, that stability is a real and worthwhile benefit.

What it does not do: it will not improve fuel economy in any way you will notice, it will not make the tyre last dramatically longer on its own, and it does not mean you can stop checking pressures. Ordinary air is already 78% nitrogen, so the change is an improvement at the margins, not a transformation. If anyone tells you otherwise, they are selling rather than explaining.

Signs to look for

Do you need Nitrogen Filling?

If any of these sound like your car, it is worth having us check it.

  • You drive long motorway distances, especially in summer
  • You want more stable pressures across a hot loaded run
  • Your tyres lose pressure noticeably between checks
  • You carry heavy loads regularly
  • You would rather check pressures every two months than every month

Our process

How City Wheels does Nitrogen Filling

Every step, and why it matters — so you can tell whether anyone else is skipping one.

  1. 01

    Check for leaks first

There is no point filling a tyre that leaks. Each wheel is checked before filling, because a slow puncture will lose nitrogen just as fast as it loses air and you would be paying for nothing.

  2. 02

    Purge

Existing air — and the water vapour in it — is purged. A proper purge is what makes the difference; a top-up on top of existing air gives you a mixture and most of the benefit is lost.

  3. 03

    Fill and set

Tyres are filled with dry nitrogen and pressures set cold to the figure on your door placard.

  4. 04

    Cap and record

Green caps go on so that you — and anyone else who works on the car — can see at a glance that these are nitrogen filled.

Typically 15 minutes — and we are open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

I had an excellent experience with CITY WHEELS - TYRE & ALLOY RIMS and would highly recommend them. My tyre burst on the night of 13th August, and since it was around 2 AM, I couldn't find any shop open or a replacement tyre available. I contacted Zeeshan, the owner, and he went above and beyond by personally coming to the shop and opening it specifically to help me. He arranged a replacement tyre, managed the fitting, and even provided complimentary wheel balancing. Everything was handled extremely efficiently and professionally despite the late hour. Really appreciate Zeeshan's dedication and willingness to help when I was genuinely stuck. Excellent customer service and a very positive experience. Highly recommended!

Questions

Nitrogen Filling — answered

Is nitrogen really better than air in tyres?

Modestly, and in specific ways. Nitrogen seeps out more slowly so pressures stay put longer, and because the gas is dry there is no water vapour to expand when tyres get hot, which keeps running pressure more stable on long summer drives. It is a genuine improvement at the margins. It will not noticeably improve fuel economy or tyre life on its own, and ordinary air is already 78% nitrogen.

Can I top up nitrogen tyres with normal air?

Yes, in an emergency — a correctly inflated tyre with some air in it is far safer than an under-inflated one with pure nitrogen. You will dilute the fill and lose some of the benefit, so come back and we will purge and refill. Top-ups on tyres we filled are free.

Do I still need to check tyre pressure with nitrogen?

Yes. Nitrogen slows pressure loss, it does not stop it, and it does nothing about a puncture or a leaking valve. Check monthly, cold, exactly as you would with air. Anyone who tells you nitrogen means you can stop checking is selling you something.

What do the green valve caps mean?

They are the standard marker for a nitrogen-filled tyre. They have no function beyond identification — they let you and any workshop see at a glance what is in the tyre so a top-up can be done with the right gas.
